Open sourcing #55
-
@khyperia Getting very close to open source. Most issues concerned about is now fixed
-
Onboarding is pretty decent #28
- Link in other issues, update issue template
- @XAMPPRocky has taken it on overall
-
Not much blocking us!
-
Target middle of next week to open source! (update: 2020-10-22 Thursday)
How to announce
-
Be very clear about that this is "Rust GPU 0.1" and which phases/levels we are in
- TODO: Further clean up README
-
Make sure to have a first nice shader!
- More than an RGB triangle shader :)
- @AriWar posted about it in the Embark team to see if anyone can contribute/port a shader
- Would be great to have in the README both with code and screenshot, memoroable!
-
@XAMPPRocky We should do a small post somewhere when going open, otherwise someone else will for us
- The readme is already pretty good
- Where to post it? could put in a GitHub release note!
-
Also talked about dev blog, for later on
-
Need to squat the crates.io crates names. #64 (Done!)
-
Add FAQ later? "can I run this on my GPU?"
@eddyb intro
- Involved in Rust for 7 years, happily hacking on the compiler
- Just couldn't stop, much nicer codebase than anything else he has seen before :)
- Used to be part of the Rust language design team, still on the compiler team
- Excited about Vulkan and more development in this area
- Hope to collaborate more, let's discuss deeper ways of working together offline!
Misc
- Continue with spirv-tools?
- Relooper idea is scratched?
- Current MIR output is reduciable, may need work to make it structured
- Not guaranteed, may be future MIR changes that makes it irreducible
- Nhe general purpose algorithm makes irreducible MIR graph reducible
- @eddyb MIR is just a control flow graph. probably not care too much about this
- Decision: do short term integration and so it works for us, don't contribute/integrate back yet. Part of rust-gpu repo
