You should be able to just start a new node in the same directory and the same way as you started the first node. That is typically all that is needed.
Note: the parameters you are using are for the 0.90.x branch of ES, not the 1.x branch. See http://www.elasticsearch.org/guide/en/elasticsearch/guide/current/_running_elasticsearch.html
That said, it'd be worth adding a sidebar explaining the things to check if a node doesn't find the cluster.
