I added the following to the java command that is in the asadmin shell script:

-Dderby.storage.fileSyncTransactionLog=true

Since there is a work-around, I have lowered the priority for a real fix.

template is checked in in admin-cli/templates module. The build.xml file will
modify asadmin file to include -Dderby.storage.fileSyncTransactionLog="true"
when building MacOS.

Please verify and close this bug.
