@jpoimboe : should we re-visit the idea of scanning for NOPs rather than relying on the __pfx_ symbol to check that a function lives at the (padded) beginning of its section?
Edit: For example, I resurrected the original NOP-scanning code and slightly modified to allow for N-nop padded functions in the absence of the __pfx_ counterpart: master...joe-lawrence:kpatch:nop-pfx-1347
