chisel-textures's Issues

Textures use very similar patterns like Minecraft

I noticed that some patterns of the textures are very similar to the one from minecraft.

I suggest we remove any texture with an identical pattern like minecraft that is not just trival from the repository. Otherwise there is the danger that we get sued.

The texture stone_bricks-cracked looks almost identical like the cracked stone brick from minecraft. It has the exact same cracks. Any other blocks that came from same source should be double checked.

The textures *_pillar-top look also very similar like a block in minecraft.

*_prism blocks share not only the name but also the pattern with "Prismarine bricks". While it is not 100% identical it looks very similar.

Also endstone, glowstone and redstone is something invented by minecraft so I think those blocks should be removed too.

TODO Retextures

Critical:

  • Sandstone - The shading simply is poorly done. Once they're finished, I can re-use the source files for Red Sandstone.

High Priority:

  • Finish Stone Bricks and Cobblestone based on Reddit suggestions. Then post a second Reddit post.
  • Finalize Stone Bricks and Cobblestone based on second Reddit post.
  • Dirt - There's a few textures that are problematic, that should be taken off of CTM V/H
  • Wooden planks - There's definitely problems with Dark Oak and Acacia.
  • Migrate new Cobblestone Designs to the Mossy Cobblestone series.
  • Redstone - Some of them are just plain sloppy jobs.
  • Lapis - They're just one color of blue, needs a bit of a color variation like vanilla Lapis
  • Glowstone - I... Don't even. Just total rehaul of coloring from re-fabricated patterns to make it more like Vanilla.
  • Limestone - They're not even the actual color of limestone. Limestone, in oversimplification, is literally a bone block. It's actually primarily made of Calcium that mostly comes from dead coral reefs deep underground.

Low Priority:

  • Iron - They're too 'shiny' and dark compared to vanilla
  • Gold - The shine can be done better, has bad color choice
  • Diamond - Could be made shiner and a more vibrant color
  • Emerald - Could be given a more vibrant color
  • Concrete - Rename the brown Concrete to Brownstone; bring in real, gray concrete
  • Netherrack - Overall needs breath-freshening. Not looking forward to the gross ones.
  • Netherbrick - They don't match the vanilla netherbrick color scheme.

TODO New Textures

  • Investigate potential patterns for crossing over from a block series to another
  • Slime Blocks
  • Coal + Charcoal + Coal Coke
  • Snow
  • Clay + Dyed
  • Grass?
  • Add glass variations that are left-right blurred streaky, like Ars Magica's forcefield blocks

The Technical Blocks will never end!
