As XP is EOL (End of Life), I'm not overly concerned with maintaining compatibility...
Also NTLMv1 is known to be broken and it's easy to recover the real password from the hash.

Yes but sadly some devices (like printer, all network HP printer :-) ) still use NTLMv1
