There's a bug in base image inference that should be fixed with 7.0.300 (and .NET 8.0.100-preview.4 in May) - the algorithm used to pick the correct ContainerBaseImage for 8.0 changed and our implementation of that algorithm was incorrect. In the meantime, you can work around this by using a ContainerBaseImage of mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/aspnet:8.0-preview (or any of the other valid tags for that image.

I just realised that there are newer packages in this repo, but I cannot download them. Also the instructions don't work since nuget doesn't find them

Thank you! Before I read your answer, I was able to install al the preview versions on this repo, but still the error remained the same. Adding
<PropertyGroup>
<ContainerBaseImage>mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/aspnet:8.0-preview</ContainerBaseImage>
</PropertyGroup>to the csproj solved the issue! 👍
