Add more memory. We can't do anything if mysql fails to start or decides to terminate. You may also wish to use a smaller buffer pool than 256 megabytes.

Yeah, I ended up enabling swap file on DO.
However, I was a bit surprised that it fails without a notification and default dokku mariadb:start/stop/restart commands fail, only manually stopping the machine via docker stop <id> solved the issue:

Regarding any sort of notification, I blogged about this recently. Dokku does not and will not do server monitoring, that is up to the instance maintainer to setup and maintain.
In regards to that start/stop failing, I don't know what happened without you running those commands with dokku trace on.
