There will be indeed more information added, in line with the In-Browser version of the client (which is currently a bit ahead of the Perl client).

v0.18 should be producing more information about an error (using "detail" rather than "type" returned, since the list of types is not exhaustive). In the client the case of blacklisted domains is going to be handled early in the process, even before any authz is requested. The case of domains considered dangerous according to Google Safe Browsing API (used by LE) is also covered.

I have installed v0.18, and it worked well. I was able to get certificate for normal domain. For blacklisted domain, it gave me enough information to find the reason why my request was failed from the internet.
