It might be better to use string expressions instead, like:
TextPatternCases["Content" -> "marathon", TextType["Verb"]~~" "~~q:TextType["Quantity"]] :> q, MaxItems -> 5]
Since the String functions, StringCases especially, already make use of native patterns, I'd be in the green. With what I'm doing now, I have to create middleware so to speak, which introduces more opportunities for bugs.

Or maybe, I can refactor TextPattern's to be StringExpression's under the hood. Meaning, a TextPattern is a StringExpression with support for TextTypes.
