NOTE: The intention here was to provide a Presenting View Controller a simple way to pass additional shared (non-injectable) state to Presented View Controllers.
If a child View Controller needs to know about data that only exists in its parent View Controller, that state can be passed straight to the child view controller when the child view is created. This is particularly useful when that data was injected into the parent View Controller property as a prototype, or when that data was already retrieved in the parent View Controller and it would be silly to go retrieve it again in the child View Controller.
Imagine an application where a new AccountView is created for each account that is opened and added to a TabPanel. The basic summary information about that account (its unique identifier, name, etc.), which we'll consider to be an AccountSummaryModel instance, might be retrieved once in the AccountView. Consider that the AccountView itself might be decomposed into other subviews that are dynamically created within the AccountView based on the account type or in response to user interaction (ex. specific task-oriented subviews or a drill-down interaction). Those presented View Controllers (for the subviews) can be initialized with that AccountSummaryModel instance via the new controllerConfig
config when they are created by the presenting View Controller (the AccountView).
