Just to make sure I get it right.
Do you mean installing DCEVM side-by-side with out of the box VM and using -XXaltjvm switch to run DCEVM?

It would be nice to also declare the alternative JVM in jre/lib/<arch>/jvm.cfg by adding this line:
-dcevm KNOWN
This would enable the shorter syntax java -dcevm to run with DCEVM. We are going to do this in Debian.

Is -XXaltjvm a standard java option? I was looking for info about replace DCEVM and altjvm but this conversation seems to be the only info about that.
Would be great to document differences (maybe it is done somewhere already)
- altjvm: allows to decide when to use patched jvm or default jvm
- replace: jvm is always the patched one
