An alternative to using modifications of the FPU hardware rounding mode involves using std::nextafter. This allows interval arithmetic for compilers that do not support a pragma approach. It can be used also for compilers that do support a pragma approach. This solves the problem where the pragma statements to turn on/off access to the floating-point environment cannot be used in header files for template classes that use interval arithmetic. I have added to my TODO list to make these modifications to GTE/GTL.

The post of GTE 5.6 has a new file SWInterval.h for interval arithmetic using std::nextafter. The performance of this in ConvexHull3 showed that it is a suitable replacement for FPInterval.h, the latter requiring access to modify the floating-point environment (which GCC does not yet support).
