Need to investigate and select an appropriate unit testing framework or method to suit this type of project

Want to keep this library as little overhead as reasonably possible

At various stages I should call callbacks, events (general and custom?) and return promises. I would like to support all three but have barely any experience with promises to know if this will work.

The use case is to be able to build progress bars and track progress in general.
