Using a structure will help avoid bugs caused by mismatches between config reading/writing functions.

It would be good to include conversion functions to convert any config version to the latest format. This means the structured config file needs a version identifier at the start (the unversioned ones will just be classic C-Dogs configs). Breaking config files is very annoying for users.

Another advantage of structured config files is that really obscure configurations can be added to the file but left out of the in-game menu.

For a JSON parser check out M's JSON parser which seems the simplest and most promising.

This will be a good opportunity to introduce some tests (#52), and refactor the config to a struct/module, as the tests will do essentially the same thing as what config conversion would do anyway.

JSON was chosen in the end, even though it's more verbose, because there was a simple library available for it.
