When you have your "data displayed in the view" -- can you explain what that means?

I tried graphing some options, then clicking the table option to see the data in an HTML table, then clicked on pie and it worked as expected. So perhaps I just don't understand your issue.

unrelated, but the pie icon is the least intuitive option. By default it only provides a pie based on the first observation in each metric... so if you want a pie that displays all the data in some range of dates you'll need to aggregate it all into a single date's measurement (using the aggregation options "Group By").
