The problem seems to appear when ForegroundDeletion
is chosen which tells api-server to delete the children immediately. However, since the controller manages the deletion via a specific order, BackgroundDeletion
should be used which starts to delete the children only when the parent actually disappeared, which in our case is blocked via finalizer until everything is gone.
And the default of kubectl
is background deletion.

@thephred could you follow up on using BackgroundDeletion for deleting resources? Please sync with @muvaf about if this should be done across the board for all resources or if there are any cases where ForegroundDeletion would still be needed 🙇♂️
