No Future of TLR ? about thelastripper HOT 3 CLOSED

I don't think I have the time to fix TheLastRipper... At least not any time 
soon...

Note: I can't reproduce you're error on Windows... The current bug in the Linux 
version have been attributed to mono. And a bug report have been reported to 
mono by other projects... If we could do a workaround that would probably be 
best...

If somebody would workout on what platforms and configurations TheLastRipper 
currently works this would be a great help to me or any other developer who 
might just for a day or two find time to fix TheLastRipper.

Also, if you, or anybody else for that matter, by any chance loves 
TheLastRipper and wants to help cleanup the issue tracker... Address comments 
on the wiki and possibly update the wiki with new relevant information...

These were just some of the tasks that doesn't require programming skills... 
But would help get TheLastRipper back on track.

But to answer you question: I don't know if TheLastRipper has a future... If 
we're lucky these issues solves them selves... Or maybe a developer steps up 
and deals with it...

Hi, JO. OK, got it... thank's for the invitation to participate actively. 

To be realistic: what I can do is that I will re-read the postings of the last 
months and pick up your impulse so fare to collect a working list. But same 
from my side, its always a lack of time. Try my best to be speedy. 

As I felt not to be a developer all the details here about programming let me 
feel little bit unsafe. I just had to re-read what is "Mono". (Rec.: Under 
legal aspects I have my doubts about the use for Microsoft as Wikipedia says 
that MS patents might be violated ( http://bit.ly/b9xw5B ) and thinking about 
the mobile future (e.g. iPad) Apple already prohibits to use Mono).

I am just a user of Microsoft computers since 20 years who can simply install 
and configure a PC as learnt from DOS, Win 3.1 and later versions (still run 
computers with Works 3.11, Win98 SE, Win NT4.0 and XP Professional). Yet I have 
no Windows 7, latest version is a Vista Home edition. That's all and not much I 
think.

To say it frankly: personally I come from side of media production, (online) 
marketing, market research, (sports) sponsoring and therefore have a different 
focus/field of competences. Dont want give a bad support by lack of 
qualifications or silly comments. 

What I can do next days to re-read the postings in the "wiki" and "issues" 
folder and collect all together for a bug list (= working list) referring the 
different platforms as you mentioned. Maybe that gives developers like you a 
basis for a concrete workaround. - Right ?

I dont want jump too fare forward, but its my nature to think in bigger time 
dimensions to give TLR a real future. Therefore 2nd I think its important to 
draft a profile of urgent needs about features which are a must (e.g. I found a 
posting about multi-user function) which same would cover more the legal 
aspects for a new TLR version 2.0. 
E.g. in some countries its total legal, if you listen to (Internet) radio 
(equivalent of a web stream) same time you can record it plus make a 2nd copy 
of the electronic format as kind of "backup". That's legal for private use. I 
think, here exist some options to cover such aspects and keep all on the safe 
side.

Another and last important aspect so I see it: with OS Android which was given 
free by Google in spring as open source and the new Web Apps coming up probably 
its time to think about how to connect the new TLR generation, l.fm with 
iMobile generations. Its not only the iPad hype of Apple. In USA mobiles like 
HTC EVO are the big run.

About the resources of manpower: its an important aspect to think about from 
where to get the knowledge progressing TLR having a good future. With the 
progress of Google Web Apps ( already more than 100,000 applications have been 
written during last 2-3 months - http://www.googlelabs.com/ ) and Google Chrome 
maybe its possible to find some developers who have "Lust" to participate. 
Projects must be "sexy" for developers". So fare TLR conntects with the iMobile 
world its a good perspective I would say. 

For such complexe working procedures I may suggest to use cost free "Google 
Wave" ( http://wave.google.com ) as kind of project management. Its more 
practical and gives to all "active participants" a safe environment seperated 
from public area, with automated updates (e.g. task tracking, mind mapping, 
internal discussions, document management) keeping all safe conntected via SSL. 

I think, it makes sense that the developer team has such a place like 
GoogleWave. The regular users should still keep their postings in the 
GoogleGroup giving feedback about Ideas, critics, bugs and problems...
