Segfault when starting experiment about core HOT 4 CLOSED

This issue turns out to be a problem with the tkimg library on amd64 not core.

If anyone needs to get around the issue you can use the attached patch. 

Does CORE print the warning "warning: failed to create canvas thumbnail" when 
the tkimg lib segfaults?

Other than the existing catch {} statements around thumbnail creation, I'm not 
sure what else we could do here. Maybe check to see if the jpg file has been 
created. Adding something like a --no-tkimg option to the GUI is one option.

64-bit Ubuntu 10.10 uses libtk-img 1.3-release-9 which works well.

Core dose not print out warning "warning: failed to create canvas thumbnail" it 
crashes on the image line.  This is a bug either with tkimg or the libjpeg 
according to some of the other bug reports.  Clearly not a problem with core.

As Harry wrote, this is a tkimg/libjpeg bug, not a CORE bug.
