I'm also unable to reproduce. @waylonrobert could you provide us any more information about your environment? I've tried with both MySQL 5.6 on linux and windows, and both apache and PHP Built In Web server. Also, make sure you have pulled in the latest commit, and it would be helpful for you to turn on error displays so that you can properly help us troubleshoot if you haven't already.

It looks like the problem was caused by competing PHP.ini files - one file had short tags on, the other had it off. Disabling the one fixed the problem. For the record this was on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and current versions of PHP and MySQL.
