Thanks @maweber-bia, I think this is a mistake. I will make the changes and move it to the suggested class for the next update.

It is possible both are true? I'm not a the domain expert but a molecule could be both a lipid and a plant secondary metabolite, and we could model it as both with subclass relations (is a) to both parents if needed.

I think we also need to if were going to keep or replace plant secondary metabolite xref #61.

@kaiiam, yes of course you are right :

a molecule could be both a lipid and a plant secondary metabolite, and we could model it as both with subclass relations (is a) to both parents if needed.

But in the specific case of capsaicin, I do not think it is a lipid class (but I am not either the domain expert).

According to CHEBI it is a lipid:

In addition to having multiple other superclasses which you can see here.

As an ontologist in the Mungallian tradition I think its better to allow for multiple inheritance to represent things more accurately. Therefore I'm in favor of having it be subclass to both lipid and the other term to be resolved in #61.

@CropStoreDb and @LilyAndres or other nutritionists does that work for you and or fit with your original nutritional framework?

maweber-bia avatar maweber-bia commented on June 11, 2024

ok, it is "a kind of" lipid mixed with amide ;-)

I found it strange to have it at an upper level of the CDNO hierarchy but it is ok to represent multiple inheritance
Thank you !

Thank you. We expect to incorporate a relationship between capsaicin within the secondary metabolite role, once the 'dietary role' class is created. I will close this issue now.

@LilyAndres I would keep this isue open as the reminder to add the relationship between capsaicin within the secondary metabolite role, once the 'dietary role' class is created, just so we don't forget (I would :P).
