Hi, can you try with latest pisignage image (https://s3.amazonaws.com/pisignage/pisignage-images/pisignage_1.8.5.img.zip) and let us know if the problem exists.

Thanks

Same problem with version 1.9.8c, any suggestion?

I'm using software version 2.3.0 and see these black screens as well. (length of 'blackness' depends)
Although not that annoying, is there a way to avoid them?

there is an option in group settings screen, please try that in 2.3.0

Thanks for letting me know! Must have overlooked this one, my fault, sorry: "Avoid gap between videos (BETA, use only for short videos".

I'll check it right away and post my experiences as soon as possible.

The 'avoid gap between videos option' makes the transitioning better.
There are still some issues (or is this normal behavior/unsolvable?) :

  • There is no gap anymore when transitioning between weblink and video.
  • There are still gaps when transitioning between two video's. (not sure if this can be avoided in a way...)
  • There is still a gap between transitioning from a video to a specific html page which contains two iframes (a link to a google page and a link to a soundcloud track). During that time the group ticker also strolls slowly are almost stops. So it probably has something to do with buffering/loading of that page?
[update: I've read some issues on the soundcloud website about slowing down websites when embedding it in an iframe. Is there a way to prebuffer assets just before these are shown? ]
PS. What is the definition of a 'short video'? ["Avoid gap between videos (BETA, use only for short videos".]

the gap between video -> video should go, if not can you send me the log "tail -200 /home/pi/forever_out.log" or check "which mpv" gives path of the mpv program?

How does the functionality exactly work? Is it a kind of preloading the next video? Could it also be useful for the issue with webpages which can take some time to load?

Concerning video -> video. I'll provide you the log through mail.

I see the following lines in the logging, just after the second video starts (after black screen)

Currently the new player is only enabled for video files (not streaming videos). Also streaming starts after initial buffering so there will be an additional gap

from pisignage.

zifnabbe avatar zifnabbe commented on September 27, 2024

okay, thanks for the clarification.
But, just to mention: I see an improvement (less black screens during transitions) even with steaming video assets (all my assets use streaming videos)
