SUMMARY: Modules are implemented as processes, and are launched as independent ros nodes. Each module also supports background tasks such as module decay that are implemented using threads. The last open question is related to codelet implementation. There are pros/cons to both process and thread based implementations. Experimentation is needed to determine which option is more useful.
