Can you please provide a backtrace on where it gets stuck along with the system configuration?
I've tested this sample on 3 different systems without any issues so far.

I can't reproduce this issue:
Arcticus
ctest -R hipKernelLaunchIsNonBlocking
Test project /home/pvelesko/space/CHIP-SPV/build
Start 372: hipKernelLaunchIsNonBlocking
1/1 Test #372: hipKernelLaunchIsNonBlocking ..... Passed 10.54 sec
100% tests passed, 0 tests failed out of 1
Label Time Summary:
internal = 10.54 sec*proc (1 test)
Total Test time (real) = 11.77 sec
Iris
ctest -R hipKernelLaunchIsNonBlocking
Test project /home/pvelesko/space/CHIP-SPV/build
Start 372: hipKernelLaunchIsNonBlocking
1/1 Test #372: hipKernelLaunchIsNonBlocking ..... Passed 33.02 sec
100% tests passed, 0 tests failed out of 1
Label Time Summary:
internal = 33.02 sec*proc (1 test)
Total Test time (real) = 33.54 sec
Which runtime are you using? @pjaaskel
It's getting stuck on event collection, I believe. It would be good to know which event it is and why it's not firing.

Did you run this test using ctest -j
? I get some tests that result in a hang but only when run in parallel. If that's the case we should rename this ticket.

Still gets stuck with level0, also when executed separately. Which BE you think is currently more stable? Perhaps we should switch to OpenCL as the default if it is? At least seems to be the case for this laptop.

OpenCL is more stable currently. Sure, we can switch to that as default which I thought it already was.
Which runtime are you using on your laptop?

You could also try this with immediate command lists.

is this still an issue?

I cannot test it at the moment since my LZ drivers are broken, it doesn't run any of the tests. Will postpone checking it for 0.9.1 or 1.0.
