You're missing the entire file structure. Also, why is the length of an URL a problem?

shorter urls would help prevent horizontal scrollbars in code editors in my app, heh. but i also think shorter version is simpler.

It's a reasonable suggestion, but it probably won't change.
Why won't it change?
Rule No. 1: Don't break backwards compatibility.
Rule No. 2: Be consistent.
It was originally done the ajax/libs way because Google did it that way.
