You haven't given me enough info to reproduce the issue. If you can provide a stack trace or example, I'll reopen this.

I have this issue with https://github.com/chrisenytc/ng-socket so it's something with the 0.9.16 version of socket.io-client. Should this issue be reopened so that other users know that it's currently an issue?

I'd like to help, but your example is still not sufficient for me to be able to reproduce the problem. Can you produce a minimal example in http://plnkr.co/ and describe the expected vs actual behavior?
