This is a reasonable request, and I would like to support it.
However, due to the architecture of TeX and LaTeXML, it's hard to
really do it right.

You've probably noticed the comments put in every 25 lines that
indicate the current file & position. What happens is that
such generated comments along with source document comments
get turned into special tokens (in the Mouth). However, they
only leak out into the Gullet when it's "safe" to do so;
otherwise they're likely to interfere with the TeX-like peeking
at tokens. Consequently, they can be delayed or even dropped,
most especially at the end of a (sub)stream of input, since
the lack of tokens indicates the end.

So, while I could add code to generate these markers (as comments),
at best they would only be near the correct position, and often
missing entirely.

from latexml.
