\upsilonup for upright upsilon…
Yes, and some variable sized symbols, and…

You’re right; there is some work to do here.
Probably the easiest way to proceed would be to wade through
“The Comprehensive LaTeX Symbol List” (symbols-letter.pdf or symbols-a4.pdf)
and some unicode tables. Besides being tedious, attempting to guess
usable roles or even meanings would be troublesome.
This could also provide implementations for some other symbol packages
like stmaryrd, tipa, wasysym,…)

I’ll do it at some point, but I’m procrastinating…

I have the feeling that this is an ideal thing one or two of the students could very well do, it does not need a lot of TeX or Perl Knowledge and would be very useful. Maybe we should advertize it to the list.

I wrote a little tool that scans a style file, noting all the control
sequences that seem to be defined, does a similar thing with the
implementation file, and subtracts to find out what isn’t defined
that should be (actually, there’s some fancy stuff to not included
packages and subtract them).

If anybody wants to use it, let me know.

Anyway, I finally got around to filling in most of the symbols
in txfonts, pxfonts (there are a number of symbols I can’t find
or figure out how to compose in Unicode, so I’ve left them undefined for now.
