Make sure Time.zone is not nil.
I was able to reproduce this using both mysql2 and the regular mysql driver by setting Time.zone to nil first.

Closing for now, let me know if you have any issues after that.

You are right, Time.zone wasn't set. However, this issue definitely doesn't occur with the regular mysql driver for me. Reverting the driver always fixes the issue. AR doesn't require the time zone to be explicitly set, and it isn't by default. I believe it just defaults to :utc. So perhaps mysql2 behavior should mirror that?

Interesting... Yeah I think AR actually sets it's default timezone to :utc (outside of the actual adapter implementation). I'll give it another look to see if I can reproduce the problem.

Would it be possible for you to recreate the issue in a vanilla 2.3.5 app so I could do that on my end?
