Since this is an internal compiler error, it seems likely that it does not like one or more of the many compiler intrinsics that are used in this file. To track down where the compiler fails you will have to progressively comment out sections of the file until you find the line (or lines) of code that cause the compiler to fail. This will then allow you to submit a compiler bug report.

Thank you! Due to time restrictions I won't be able to investigate this now. If I revisit this topic I will update the status here. I think this issue can be considered closed on your side.

@BrianGladman , I wanted to inform you that I was able to compile when removing the define of USE_INTEL_AES_IF_PRESENT in aesopt.h. Do you have an explanation why it works then?

BrianGladman avatar BrianGladman commented on July 18, 2024

Yes, the file aes_ni.c contains no code unless USE_INTEL_AES_IF_PRESENT is defined.

Yes sure, so it falls back to an unoptimised AES implementation then?

No, it simply doesn't use the Intel AES hardware instructions. What is uses instead might or might not be optimised depending on the many other options you can choose.
