That's a bad example since you could combine regexes. I don't see the issue with that behaviour.

@PascaleBeier that is what I am doing as a temporary workaround, but my issue with that is that, regardless of what part of the regex is matched or unmatched, there is at most one error message. This would not tell people what element of the password they're missing, simply that they are missing any. It is a design decision on my part because it is my preference that there be no ambiguity in why the form is failing to be submitted.

I get you, I can think of adding some contains options for uppercase, lowercase, number, special character, e.g.

'contains:uppercase:Needs to have an uppercase character|contains:number:Needs to contains a number'

Or something similiar?

That would be great, I'm facing exactly the same problem when it comes to password strength verification.
The validation should have rules for: min. x uppercase, min. x lowercase, min. x number.
