@marimeireles: Hi my name is Mariana, I'm an electrical engineering student from Brazil. I saw Beyond Activismo on Moz 2018 Global Sprint site and I really liked the idea of the project and I'd like to contribute as a translator to Portuguese.
I think that people (not companies) making and sharing high quality information with other people is a way to change the world for better and finding an open project that aims to share human rights activists histories is very exciting! I'm very excited to begin contributing! :)

Hi @Beyondactivismo - we've met a few times in the Open Leaders Cacti cohort and we just wanted to formally introduce ourselves! We are a team of five people (librarians and IT people) working on a resource for open researchers. Our projects are very different but they both are centered around incorporate stories and storytelling. Maybe we can talk about how to best help people share their stories.

Also, many open researchers also do activism related to their research....so maybe there is some overlap there too!

@denefi: Hi my name is Valentin, I’m a law student and a freelance journalist. I moved from Uruguay to Berlin, Germany as a child and have been based there ever since.
The main reason I work with Beyond Activismo is that it is a great place for developing new ways of telling stories with a group of cool and dedicated people from different disciplines.
While traditional media outlets paint the world as an ever more dangerous and complex place, the stories of people and communities that are actively holding states and companies accountable in human rights matters are often invisible. I strongly believe that by telling the stories and motivations of activists and by linking them to each other we can empower people to take back their agency and to find the means to improve life in their communities.

@triaslucia : I am a fashion designer from Uruguay. Since the beginning of my career, IÂŽve been working on the understanding of design as a social tool and the role of designers in society. After moving to Berlin - where I currently live - I realized the different opportunities to access information and resources that people have according to their location. I am therefore convinced that itÂŽs through open and collaborative processes that we can make a difference.
When I first heard about BA I felt connected to the idea of re-humanizing the current social and political problematics around the world. I was at that moment searching for a way to get involve in Human Center Design, It was a match!
I developed the C.I. as well as the conceptualization of the UX approach of it, focusing on connecting our ideas with the community!

@Josefinacm: Hi everybody! My name is Josefina, I’m a political scientist from Chile now living in Germany.
I always have been interested in human rights topics, in Chile, I was part of the Observatorio Contra el Acoso Callejero Chile, a feminist organization against street harassment.

The main reason why I started to work in Beyond Activismo was that I want to understand what motivate people from different cultures, religions, and countries to participate in causes related to human rights. I think that documenting their histories in different languages is a way to make the knowledge more accessible to everyone.

But in the way, we found a stone, how can we translate the content to as many languages as possible? How can we travel around the world and meet activists?

The solution: An open project where whoever wants to collaborate could do it in different fields, makes possible to create networks within the community of Beyond Activismo (activists, collaborators, and future activists).

I participate in Beyond Activismo because I really believe in this project, that can it be possible =)

@dannyrayman: Hi my name is Danny, I am a lawyer and freelance photographer, I have been working for a while with NGOs doing research and litigating in human rights issues but in particular in data protection, copyrights, privacy, and freedom of expression matters. One of the main reason why I start to work in Beyond Activismo, was to figurate what people from different cultures, religions, and countries have in common through their activism. Then the possibility to make an interdisciplinary space where people coming from different fields, cultures and countries can work together to share and build this kind of collaborative open memory in different languages, and in an attractive and creative way was the most challenging but also exciting path to try to find an answer to this question of what do all these activists have in common?
