Hi ampessann,

Would you be able to post the full layout xml and java activity code?

Have you tried running the Bootstrap Test project? I've tested it on a device running 2.3.7 and the Bootstrap Test project seems to show the hints ok. For example here's a screen shot of the emulator https://www.dropbox.com/s/53czwsjycoflr3g/Screen%20Shot%202013-12-06%20at%2011.44.04.png

Hi ampessann,

It appears to be an issue with the 'android:inputType="textEmailAddress" ' - if you remove that one line it works fine. But that line works fine on a device running 4.3. I'll have a look into what version of the SDK email address input types were added in.

Hope that helps somewhat.

daniellevass,

So removing the line inputType works normally.
Thanks for the help

Ok, so apparently it's a known issue for android 2.3. You can either have the gravity, or the an input type. Doesn't affect any versions higher.

Please read this for any more information - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12715809/android-edittext-hint-disappears-with-inputtype-textcapcharacters

Do you have any significant reason to support version 2.3? I remember reading a week or so ago that there is currently a movement to try and get everyone to use min sdk of 14 (android 4.0) :)

Best of luck,

Danielle

Thanks Danielle for the explanation and the links.

I need to support the minimum 2.3 because I live in Brazil, and here, there are many people who use cell phones with 2.3 unsupported upgrade to 4.x.

But gradually the scenario is changing and I hope we do not need more support applications 2.3.

That's fair :) I've learnt things today so I'm happy!

Best of luck with everything!
