The http_proxy will only proxy the service calls to return your instance information from AWS. It doesn't proxy SSH connections (different protocol). If EC2Box can't make an SSH connection b/c outbound 22 is blocked, then it won't work. ..But what you could do is run EC2Box off of its own EC2 instance that way it connects to your other EC2 instances locally (I just committed an option in EC2BoxConfig.properties that allows it to always use the private DNS when it connects). That way you just connect to EC2Box running off the instance via https and since all the SSH connections are done on the EC2 side there no firewall to get in the way.
