I would assume this configuration is correct?

Will my main Mojave installation be affected?

No way! No worries

Is it possible to install Big Sur on the external SSD using this method?

Of course! Be careful!

  1. Are you already using APFS or using HFS+ ? This is important!
  2. You have to format disk to APFS scheme (GUID)
    Photo_001
  3. At least you must have more than 60GB+ SPACE on AFPS Container
  4. Just choose the external SSD

Thank you!

While I'm here, I would assume that if I pair a Bluetooth device with one OS, it will be unpaired with the other, even if they're both macOS, right?

I'm asking since on my Lenovo laptop where I dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu, if I pair a device on one OS, it forgets about the other OS. So if I connect my Bluetooth mouse to Windows and then to Ubuntu, Windows still sees it as paired but the connection isn't made when I turn the mouse on.

Regardless, I'll see for myself after the install. Thank you for your help!
