MARK messages could be of use here. Not sure if this works with the Perl destination too, but mark-mode("periodical") and mark-freq(60) could do the trick, perhaps?
A quick glance suggests that the perl destination does not support this yet, but there's a good chance I can add it to LogThrDestDriver, and then could make it work in 3.6 (and Incubator would inherit the feature when the 3.6 branch of it opens).

It can be solved by either using mark-messages or trigger-source. So I'm closing it for now.
