What CB (my own version of this project) does in this exact case is check if the error is Invalid cross-device link and then copy the file and delete the original, basically being the same as renaming. Hope this helps! :) It should be as simple as performing the check then trying the action again.

Thanks for the input. I was on the fence about it since it's not atomic, but I don't think there's an alternative. According to this reply, even mv copies first when it's moving files across file systems.
