Hi,
View3D completely bypasses the real display object transform property (so the "real" x and y properties would always remain 0). This was done due to an assumption that View3D would always be added to the stage directly - because of how it maps to Stage3D and adding it to the hierarchy causes issues with rotation and scale.
However, realizing that may not be very intuitive either, I'll remove the bypass which then also allows your suggestions to work. The only thing that will not work properly is scaling or rotating any object in the View3D's hierarchy.
