To be honest i did not do a whole lot of research on this topic and kind of rely on Android to do the right thing (i can't change it anyway)

That's because crypto security is only supported with BIOMETRIC_STRONG https://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/biometrics/BiometricManager.Authenticators#BIOMETRIC_STRONG
Face unlock is BIOMETRIC_WEAK

Cool, that makes sense. Looking at the link though, not all Face unlocks are BIOMETRIC_WEAK, but the Samsung S10e is a few years old by now so it makes sense.
Unless you're saying that all implementations of face unlock is seen as BIOMETRIC_WEAK?
