I don't plan to change this behavior. However, that doesn't mean that you won't be able to accomplish something similar using an alternate technique. One thing we are looking into is improving our templating loading and location logic. So, we hope to support in-page templates in the future. The idea here is that you could include a <template></template> element in the page that you had rendered with Rails and then when we loaded up your app, we could located that template and use it as the view. We don't have this yet, but it's something we are working on. We need this to handle various bundling strategies as well, so it all plays together in the end.

@bradbarrow Sorry I didn't see this until just now but you can use a main.js to set what to use as the root of your application as well with the second parameter -

aurelia.start().then(a => a.setRoot('app', appHost));

I'd be very interested in the in-page template loading technique too. I was under the impression Aurelia could do it too. Sad to hear it can't...yet.

Any updates for in-page template loading? Would help re-architect some build pieces for a Rails app
