That should work in the version in development on master, but not on in the 0.7 release. Which version did you use?

I use three-d = "0.7.3" in Cargo.toml
If there is no simple way to use the development master, I could wait for your update. There are much other tings to do.
I did not find something in your documentation, so I assume all kinds of files are supported.
Also .webp for materials. Also SVG? And also inline/embedded? ("data:image/png;base64...)
A browser may do most of the job, using WASM, but I am not sure for native binary.

The loader should be able to load all files, at least if it is possible to load them from disk or download from web. Only a few formats are possible to parse though so you have to do that yourself.
