Well spotted. Indeed my tests give the same results,
time to clear: 1ms; time to add items: 4380ms; time to update: 87ms
time to clear: 3ms; time to add items: 8210ms; time to update: 80ms
time to clear: 2ms; time to add items: 16285ms; time to update: 94ms
time to clear: 3ms; time to add items: 28281ms; time to update: 80ms
time to clear: 2ms; time to add items: 42186ms; time to update: 87ms
on each pass, the time needed to add the items is more and less doubled
I'm going to investigate and resolve that asap.

@jDramaix, I'm trying to populate a list with 200 optgroups and 600 items, and I'm getting a really long UI freeze.
Is this related? if not, can I do it async somehow?

Out of curiosity, have you snap shot the heap and filter by "detached" and see whats listed?
