I couldn't figure out in which commit the change occurred or which code is responsible for it.
So I am filing this issue instead. It could also be that the change is intentional but I think it looks quite a bit worse now.
Also the material guidelines would prefer the old one: https://m3.material.io/components/search/overview
Maybe you can point me in the right direction on how the search app bar works.

Personally, I don't care too much about the design there but if you like the old one better, feel free to change it back. Unfortunately, I have no idea what code is responsible. If I would be solving this, I would probably use git bisect
