The only workaround I've found is to change the Theme of the app in settings.
Changing the Theme from OLED to Dark makes it appear. But it's not an OLED theme issue, because when I come back in Dark, it still breaks/doesn't show the media controls. And switching to OLED theme brings them back.
So it seems to be related to some floating window UX state to show/hide the media controls that's not always being triggered, regardless of the theme.
Only other bit of info is it seems to happen regularly when coming back to the app for the first time of the day. Like, it was tombstones and was resumed from a saved state.
Forcing the app closed and re-opening does not fix it. I have to change the theme, and then it reappears.
I've tried for months to find a work around...

You are using an ancient version of AntennaPod. This is likely already fixed if you update the app.
