Along with the packages mentioned in the repo install TF version 1.2 along with the GPU version. That did it for me.

have the same error here. running on a linux server. have you found a solution? or does the repo work regardless of the unittest failing? (running on a conda env with python 3.5)

One more thing is to check your CUDA and cuDNN versions to make sure that they are compatible here.
