Another example for clarity

type V = {
  prop1 :: Maybe String
, prop2 :: Maybe String
, prop3 :: Maybe String
, prop4 :: Maybe String
, etc
}

myHtml :: V -> Html Action
myHtml (V v) = div [] [
           span [] [ text "my text" ]
         , case v.prop1 of
             Just v -> span [ "myfield1" ] [
                         span [] [ text "some html 1" ]
                       , span [] [ text v ]
                       ]
             Nothing -> Nothing --<< how do I represent a "null" element -- similar to "when" in monadic code?
         , case v.prop2 of
             Just v -> span [ "myfield2" ] [
                         span [] [ text "other html 2" ]
                       , span [] [ text v ]
                       ]
             Nothing -> Nothing
         , case v.prop3 of
             Just v -> span [ "myfield3" ] [
                         span [] [ text "weird html 3" ]
                       , span [] [ text v ]
                       ]
             Nothing -> Nothing
         , case v.prop4 of
             Just v -> span [ "myfield4" ] [
                         span [] [ text "different html 4" ]
                       , span [] [ text v ]
                       ]
             Nothing -> Nothing
         ]

Managed to solve this thanks to help from humanoyd and chexxor on IRC.

Solution looks like:

type V = {
  prop1 :: Maybe String
, prop2 :: Maybe String
, prop3 :: Maybe String
, prop4 :: Maybe String
, etc
}

myHtml :: V -> Html Action
myHtml (V v) = div [] (
           [ span [] [ text "my text" ] ]
           <> ( case v.prop1 of
                  Just v -> span [ "myfield1" ] [
                              span [] [ text "some html 1" ]
                            , span [] [ text v ]
                            ]
                  Nothing -> [])
           <> ( case v.prop2 of
                  Just v -> span [ "myfield2" ] [
                              span [] [ text "other html 2" ]
                            , span [] [ text v ]
                            ]
                  Nothing -> [])
           <> ( case v.prop3 of
                  Just v -> span [ "myfield3" ] [
                              span [] [ text "weird html 3" ]
                            , span [] [ text v ]
                            ]
                  Nothing -> [])
           <> ( case v.prop4 of
                  Just v -> span [ "myfield4" ] [
                              span [] [ text "different html 4" ]
                            , span [] [ text v ]
                            ]
                  Nothing -> [])
         )
