P.S. or maybe reuse chosen CSS from http://harvesthq.github.com/chosen some way?
I.e. they "Multiple Select" looks PERFECT :)

Theming is pretty easy, just need to do it. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll add either or both in the next release.

Sure, just make sure you also update your "Builder" (http://textextjs.com/download.html), so user can select which "theme" to use before he minimize to single js file :) Because today I spend some time to change styles directly in minified js file ;-), which is bad practice for sure :)

@evereq have you made any attempts at theming already?

evereq avatar evereq commented on August 29, 2024

ah, no I did only slight changes, see http://jsfiddle.net/evereq/3adXe/3/ :)
I use it for now as prototype, so will probably wait you or somebody to do it better than me :)

Btw - I think if you want to made plugin popular, make sure you add support of theming from jQuery UI... I stop usage of jQuery UI after Bootstrap out, however many developers still use it :)

I haven't looked at how jQuery theming works. Do you have any experience with it?

I beg you not to use jQueryUI or at least not make it mandatory as MANY people do not use jQueryUI

@alexgorbatchev - I have experience with jQuery UI themes only as "customer", i.e. just utilize existed CSS framework. I think in your case, it should be same way - just utilize some jQuery UI CSS framework (http://jqueryui.com/docs/Theming/API) CSS classes and you will automatically get look & feel of jQuery UI and be compatible with themes switcher, etc (even button to open drop down may look different according to selected theme). Again, like @jasondavis it should be not "mandatory" but just an option. However such option can be very attractive for users as still a LOT of people actually do use jQuery UI :) (see for example small list of plugins which use it here http://jqueryui.com/docs/Theming/ThemeRollerReady) and work to made your library to utilize jQuery UI themes looks relatively simple for me :)

-1 on having jQuery UI as a requisite.

I would go further and say that theming should be minimal by default. Right now the default styles mangle too much with the input (e.g., remove the input label). It should provide styles just for the dropdown / tags - that is, only style stuff inside the input and don't mess with the outside.

BTW, awesome plugin @alexgorbatchev

-1 for jqueryUI as dependency

Chose this plugin over others mostly because it doesn't require jqueryUI.

Any news on easy thumbing? The text size on the labels is just too small for my use.
