FWIW, using an AUGraph has its advantages. The mixer subtype gives you automatic peak limiting and could allow for multiple, separate render blocks. Maybe something to file away for a rainy day...

Yeah, I would love to pull out the guts of Novocaine some day and replace
it all with AUGraph goodness, with a mixer inline. I know you're focusing
on cross-platform stuff, but I would love to rope in some other
contributors to make that a reality...
