Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm getting this error both on Ubuntu with locally running Kafka, and on Windows 10 Home with Kafka running in Docker.

In both cases kafka-python on its own works just fine.

It should be included in next release.

I did take a look one more time, the issue is only a bad side effect of auto version guessing and your producer is actually working just fine, only printing an error log.

Message produced: partition 0; offset 10

If the error message is annoying specifying api_version="0.9" in the constructor should help remove it.
