Welp, I figured it out!

A couple of things:

  • I am running this within a script so theres is some annoyingness with blocking.
  • I have to create the gui object first and have it set to not block
  • I then captured the pgdf instantiated as a PandasGuiDataFrameStore and applied filters to it.
  • Then I called the exec_ function from the gui class attribute "app"

The code looks like this:

df = pd.read_sql(self.get_query(), con=self.conn)
gui = pandasgui.show(df, user_feedback=self.instructions, settings={"block": False})
pgdf = gui.store.data["df"]
self.add_filters(pgdf)
gui.app.exec_()
